status in Michael's Federal Court case, Companioni v. Canada
(Minister of Citizenship and Immigration)
which seeks to clarify the
law respecting the immigration admissibility of people with HIV.

The Federal Court decides Companioni v. Canada (Minister of Citizenship and Immigration) and agrees with Michael's arguments
that immigration applicants with HIV should have an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to bear the costs of their medication in
order to avoid being determined medically inadmissible.

Michael Battista attends the XVI International AIDS Conference in Toronto. Michael was a member of the Visa/Travel Entry Task Group which assisted delegates to attend the conference, including advising the government on necessary policy changes to admission procedures. On Tuesday, August 15th, Michael spoke on a panel with international activists such as Rahul Singh of the Naz India Foundation Trust regarding the criminalization of same sex relationships as violations of international human rights.
